GREEN DEVELOPMENT
Our Green Development Practice draws on expertise in environmental law, construction law, real estate, and municipal regulations. We can help all parties involved in green buidling projects, including owners, buyers, lessors, designers, contractors, and real estate agents. Our services include:
- Green Building Construction and Renovation. We draft and negotiate contracts for all phases of green building development, including land acquisition, design and construction, subcontracts, and purchase and sale agreements. We can also help clients develop risk management strategies to protect against uncertainties in the emerging green building market.
- Green Building Leasing. We representing owners and lessors negotiating lease agreements for green buidlings, including properly allocating reponsibility for green building performance and long term operation and maintenance.
- Regulatory Compliance. Our attorneys can assist clients in indentifying and complying with new green building codes and laws, as well as helping clients understand emerging regulatory trends at the state and local level.
- Municipal Ordinances. We can assist in the drafting and implementation of green building codes, or updating existing zoning ordinances and building codes to support and encourage green building.
- Zoning and Permitting. Green building options have created a wealth of new considerations for developers and contractors. New designs, as well as new construction techniques and materials can make it more difficult to receive necessary approvals. We help clients obtain those approvals, including obtaining variances and special exceptions when needed.
We are committed to staying on the cutting edge of the rapidly developing legal trends in the world of green building and development, while providing our clients with counsel that allows their green building projects to be completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with regulatory and independent rating criteria. Our green building practice is led by Jon Wilkinson, who previously worked as in-house counsel for Malcolm Pirnie, Inc., one of the nation's leading environmental engineering firms.
